Belgrave Gift Shop – Eco Soul Collective

1685 Burwood Highway, Belgrave

Eco Soul Collective is one of the newest shops in the Dandenongs, opening in July 2022. It has all the things I love in a gift shop. Shelves of colourful items that delight the eyes. Textures that you want to reach out and touch. Scents that tickle your nose. But this colourful little gem is much more.

The Owners

Eco Soul Collective is owned and operated by great friends Jess and Courtney. They met in an online mothers group when expecting, Jess her first and Courtney her second. Both had boys who are now 17 months old. The pair bonded over their respective small businesses. During lockdown Jess taught herself all about dried flower arranging. Courtney, a former property valuer, had a reusable gift wrap business.

In 2022, they decided to combine all their business interests under one banner and within 4 months Eco Soul Collective was developed. And like all things this pair do it continued at warp speed once they had the keys to the shop with fitout being completed in just 4 weeks.

Its Ethos

What I love is that Eco Soul Collective provide space to sell their works for over 50 artists and makers, 90 percent of whom are local to the Dandenongs. So not only is Eco Soul a small business, it itself is supporting even smaller businesses. And even better its focus is on sustainable and ethical products and producers. You have to love that. The store even offers a recycling station where you can deposit medicine blister packs, bread tags and cosmetics containers.

Classes and Workshops

But beyond being just a gift shop Eco Soul Collective is also a space to gather and to learn. At the rear of the store is a dried flower bar and space to seat 12 participants.

A range of classes are offered, not only by Jess and Courtney, but by other local makers, including many of those whose works are for sale in the shop. Classes include everything from tarot to plant medicine to resin art. In school holidays kids classes are on offer. Check out the calendar of upcoming events and classes here.

Final Words

So whether you are after a gift for a newborn baby, your nana or even yourself be sure to drop by and check out what Eco Soul have on offer. Heck, even if you are just looking to pass some time before school pickup or while you are waiting on someone drop in. With 50+ stallholders there promises to always be something new on offer to see.
